The Vafo Group of the Czech Republic has officially opened its first plant in Nokia in Finland. According to the company, the new facility is the largest of its kind in Finland and the eighth in total for the Vafo Group. It will be run by subsidiary company Prima Pet Premium. Vafo is a family-run Czech company. It was established close to Prague in 1994 and currently employs more than 750 people.
“With a production capacity of 20 000 tonnes of pet food per year, Vafo has consolidated its dominant position in the local market,” says the company. Total investment in the new plant amounts to over 16 mio euros. When fully operational, up to 20 staff will be employed there.
Pilot operations at the new factory, which occupies a site covering approximately 3 000 m², commenced at the start of March. The plant utilises an extensive system of solar panels as its energy source and is 100 per cent biogas-compatible. It also has a unique packaging line in which special machines produce pouches made from reusable film, including the biggest 12- and 15-kg pouches.
